BIBLE CHURCH AT ROCKBRIDGE
About us

History
Bible Church at Rockbridge was chartered on June 24, 1984. Prior to that, the original congregation felt the need for a local new testament church to be autonomous and biblically based. Therefore, they formed a fellowship of like-minded believers in early 1982. They were assisted by several supply pastors and met in a variety of venues including Deaver’s Alley and the House Mountain Chapel. The first Pastor was the Reverend David Schutt, who challenged the people biblically and led in a period of growth that necessitated obtaining land and building a sanctuary. The present sanctuary held its first service on Easter Sunday 1986. The church has continued to meet at this location ever since. Pastor Schutt felt a call to Christian counseling and resigned in August of 1991. The church leadership, desiring to keep the doors open, sought the help of supply pastors, including the current pastor, George H. Warden Jr., who started filling the supply ministry in September of 1991. He was subsequently called by the church to become the Pastor and was installed as Pastor on March 1, 1992. Under his leadership, the church building debt was retired and a commitment to missions began to grow and is still part of the church’s growth plan today.

Who We Are
We are a small Independent, Fundamental, Baptist congregation nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. We live and serve in Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County. We proclaim the name of Jesus Christ and the saving power of the Good News of the Gospel to all people. We teach the Bible as it is to people as they are.
Who We Serve
We are a group of imperfect Christ followers seeking to live by his example of serving others. We desire to serve each other by walking alongside each other through life to encourage each other and point each other to Christ. We also look forward to opportunities to serve our community through outreach programs.

What We Do
Our church meets regularly throughout the week for a variety of prayer and worship services as well as Bible Study. We study God's word together, pray together, and worship together. We encourage each other to follow Christ more closely each day and remain diligent in His word. We volunteer to teach and work within the church as well as encourage personal evangelism and fellowship outside the confines of formal church services. All are welcome.
About Our Pastor
George H. Warden Jr.
George H. Warden Jr. was born and raised in Stanaford, West Virginia where his mother took him to Sunday School and Church at Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church. At the age of 14, he accepted the Lord as Savior. Leaving home in 1966 to attend Virginia Military Institute with plans of pursuing a career in the law, he became involved with the Lexington Baptist Church, where he met his future wife, Pamela Straub of Lexington. They were married on May 17, 1970, just hours after his graduation from VMI. George entered into active military service in the United State Army, but the Lord worked to open the door to a business opportunity that brought him and Pam back to Lexington in 1972 where he and his wife continued to be actively involved in the teaching ministry of Lexington Baptist Church. Through a series of divinely orchestrated events, George left the business world and answered God’s call to ministry. He was ordained as the Associate Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bassett, VA on November 30, 1987 where he and Pam served until answering God’s call to move back to Rockbridge County in December of 1990. He served as a supply pastor in various churches until being called to be the full time pastor of Bible Church at Rockbridge in 1992. His wife Pam has been a very effective help meet and encourager in the ministry of Bible Church.
